The new design of the ONE METRO Campus Atrium invites you to discover

The site of ONE METRO Campus is deeply rooted in the history of Düsseldorf. It was once home to the traditional H. Schmincke & Co. paint factory. A company that for generations supplied artists with high-quality paints and revolutionised European painting.
The history of the site is commemorated in the design concept. The new artistic design of the atrium façade makes a statement: Colour is not an accessory here, but a central element of the interior design.
The motif reflects METRO's identity: a still life of fruit and vegetables symbolises the company's expertise in freshness and its close partnership with the food service industry. The architectural practice ACME arranged fruit and vegetables in the colour spectrum, photographed them and gradually abstracted them into pixel areas. The artwork consists of 8,000 colour pixels in 60 different shades, which are sprayed onto around 2,000 m² of the façade by artists from Berlin-based FRAMELESS STUDIO. On the upper floors, the pixel image loosens and separates from the coloured substructure. The remaining façade surfaces provide a canvas for the colourful work, and the previously neutral atmosphere of the atrium is activated by the warm, vibrant colour surfaces. The result is a design concept that combines METRO, gastronomy and art, enhancing the newly created public space and attracting visitors.

The new design of the ONE METRO Campus Atrium invites you to discover: What appear to be abstract dots of colour at close range form a recognisable motif from a distance. This visual tension creates curiosity and invites the viewer to look at and decipher the work from different perspectives. The dialogue between viewer and façade transforms the building into a canvas that comes to life through movement and interaction.
